This month’s program will be “Unraveling the Myths of Castle Garden and Ellis Island” with guest speaker, Jerry Paulson. The presentation describes the immigrant experience upon arrival at their New York port of entry from 1820 until Ellis Island closed in 1954. This in-depth program debunks many of the stories linked to the immigrant’s arrival, explains the steps taken to gain entry to America, and includes rarely seen images of the inside of Ellis Island.
Jerry Paulson spent twenty-five years teaching genealogy classes at Madison Area Technical College and is now the Naeseth Chair for Genealogical Research and Publication at the Norwegian American Genealogical Center and Naeseth Library in Madison, Wisconsin. Jerry is a native of Madison and his personal research and travels include Germany, Norway, England and Ireland. A popular speaker on numerous topics, Jerry is a member of Dane County Area Genealogy Society and Wisconsin State Genealogical Society and various other ethnic groups.
All interested in genealogy and family history, from beginner to advanced, are welcome to attend.
