Plein Air Painting is a French term translated as “painting in the open air” and became popular during the Impressionist movement of the late 1800’s. Masters of the Impressionist Era, artists Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir began painting outside of their studios in order to learn to more accurately depict outdoor locations and the various light and weather conditions that can drastically alter a scene.
