Presque Isle Area Wildlife

Some animal lovers say, with good reason, that a trip to the Wisconsin Northwoods is better than going to a zoo. The millions of acres of forests, waters, and wetlands surrounding Presque Isle are home to an astounding array of wildlife. While you never know what you may see or hear on any given day, it is practically guaranteed that you will witness the presence of creatures that you would otherwise experience only on TV or in picture books.

Bird City

The Town of Presque Isle received recognition on Aug. 10, 2011, as a Bird City Wisconsin community and has maintained this honor thru the years. A plethora of places to enjoy birds exist in Presque Isle, from the lakes and your backyard to designated birding hotspots including the Catherine Wolter Wilderness Area, Pipke Park’s Rearing Ponds, and the Van Vliet Hemlocks State Natural Area.

Visit the Nature Nook Classroom. Walk the grounds and enjoy gardens, a beachfront and tadpole water ecology classroom. Over 12 miles of trails feature an interpretive trail, a one of a kind bog boardwalk, and interpretive signage. Open year-round for hiking, biking, skiing and snowshoeing too.
